Cumberland/North Yarmouth Youth Lacrosse serves the towns of Cumberland and North Yarmouth, Maine.
It is the program which will ultimately feed the Greely Middle School and Greely High School programs
Cumberland/North Yarmouth Youth Lacrosse (CNYYL) is dedicated to the organization, growth, and development of youth lacrosse for boys and girls grades K-6 for the towns of Cumberland and North Yarmouth, Maine.
It is our belief that each player should be given: careful instruction on the basic skills neccesary to play the game, the opportunity to grow and learn the sport through fun and challenging activities, develop a sense of gameplay and field awareness, gain a level of fitness necessary to play well and with a decreased susceptibility for injury, and respect the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
Grades 3-6 boy's and girl's team's seasons begin in late March and run for 8-9 weeks until the beginning of June. Practices are typically twice a week with games on Saturdays. Although it is considered a "travel sport", games are fairly local with the farthest one usually within 45 minutes. There are also two tournaments that each team participates in each season where multiple games are played in a fun environment and a non-competitive jamboree format.
The K-2 program takes place on Saturday mornings for 4-5 weeks beginning at the beginning of May in Cumberland. These sessions are to teach the very basics of throwing, catching, scooping the ball through interactive fun activities. These sessions are taught by coaches and players from the Greely High School Boy's and Girl's Lacrosse teams.
CNYYL is coordinated and run by parents who volunteer their time as coaches and administrators to help build the program and educate others on the beauty of the sport. We have found that having a strong knowledge of the game is not necessary--just a desire to help each child have a rewarding experience each season.
